Prysmian AFUMEX™ cables maximize fire safety
AFUMEX™ Minimizes Fire Risks According to data from the Istanbul Metropolitan Municipality (IMM), factory fires increased by 76.4% from 2020 to the end of 2024, while the increase in residential fires was 36.2%. In response to this alarming rise, Türk Prysmian Kablo offers a significant solution in fire safety by minimizing fire risks with its AFUMEX™ cables. These cables do not emit toxic gases and prevent the spread of flames, enhancing safety. They are safely used in many important structures worldwide, from Burj Khalifa to Hamburg Airport.
According to a report prepared by the Istanbul Metropolitan Municipality Fire Department, the number of factory fires increased from 182 in 2020 to 321 in 2024, a 76.4% increase. Similarly, residential fires increased from 4,440 in 2020 to 6,047 by the end of 2024, a 36.2% increase. Türk Prysmian Kablo, the Turkish operation of Prysmian, a global leader in the energy and telecommunications cables sector, minimizes fires caused by electrical installations in buildings with its AFUMEX™ cables produced at its Mudanya factory. Developed after the company's R&D efforts, AFUMEX™ cables significantly contribute to preventing loss of life and property in a fire environment with their low smoke density, zero toxic gas emission, and high fire performance.
Used in Leading Structures Worldwide
Türk Prysmian Kablo, known for its work on the Construction Products Regulation (CPR), is also preferred in leading structures worldwide with its AFUMEX™ cables. These new-generation AFUMEX™ cables are used in many structures, including the Dubai Metro, the world's tallest building Burj Khalifa (Dubai), the Guggenheim Museum (Bilbao), Wimbledon Tennis Court, Hamburg Airport, Santralistanbul, Kanyon Shopping Mall, and Bursa Acıbadem Hospital.
"The Biggest Risk is Rapidly Spreading Smoke and Toxic Gases"
Regarding their innovative solution, Prysmian Türkiye CEO Daniele Mazzarella said, "One of the biggest risks during a fire is rapidly spreading smoke and toxic gases. Our AFUMEX™ cables produced at our Mudanya factory help minimize this risk with low smoke density and zero toxic gas emission. They help protect life and property safety in areas with high human traffic, such as hospitals, schools, shopping malls, cinemas and theaters, airports, and hotels."
Leading the Industry with Their Work
Türk Prysmian Kablo continues to undertake projects that raise quality standards in every period. Highlighting the importance of high-performance and safe cables with the "Attention! All Cables Are Not the Same..." initiative launched at the end of 2012, the company also leads the industry with its work under the Construction Products Regulation (CPR), which came into effect on July 1, 2017. As the first company in Türkiye to receive orders for CPR-compliant B2ca-s₁d₁a₁ and Cca-s₁d₂a₁ class cables, the company continues its efforts to promote the use of safe cables to prevent fires caused by electrical installations.
