Türk Prysmian Kablo, which has its operations fully incorporated into its sustainability strategy, has released its Sustainability Report 2021 for the first time this year. The report highlights Türk Prysmian Kablo’s efforts to reduce its carbon footprint, ensure circular use of resources, improve its business model, and develop its employees and the community.
The Turkish operation of Prysmian Group, which is a world leader in energy and telecommunication cables’ industry, Türk Prysmian Kablo has released its Sustainability Report 2021 for the first time this year, sharing its performance on its sustainability journey.
“Sustainability is part of our DNA”
Ülkü Özcan, CEO of Türk Prysmian Kablo, which continues its sustainability efforts in a variety of areas from transition to clean energy and the development of its employees, stated that the company is consistently adhering to their sustainability roadmap in 2022. Speaking about the Sustainability Report 2021 released by Türk Prysmian Kablo, Türk Prysmian Kablo’s CEO Ülkü Özcan said; “This year, we have shared our Sustainability Report 2021 for the first time, outlining our duties and commitments to our stakeholders, employees, and the community. Integrating sustainability into its DNA, Prysmian Group commits to increase low-carbon product sales by 50% in 2022. At Türk Prysmian Kablo, we keep working to fulfill this commitment in line with our sustainability initiative, "Sign it." We continue to contribute to the sustainability strategy of Prysmian Group MEAT Region as well as the formation of a regional sustainability strategy.”
We will invest €100 million in sustainability projects
Prioritizing the switch to clean energy in its sustainability roadmap, Türk Prysmian Kablo’s climate goals focus on low-carbon production. The company hopes to uphold its economic, social and environmental obligations with a business model that that calls for a shift to an inclusive and equal workplace. Citing that the efficient use of energy resources is crucial to sustainability, Türk Prysmian Kablo’s CEO Ülkü Özcan said; “Prysmian Group commits to invest a total of €100 million in sustainability projects in the next decade. We support this commitment by providing cutting-edge energy and communications solutions while ensuring that our production practices are in line with our sustainability vision, which we integrate into every aspect of our operations, and our mission of Linking Turkey to a Sustainable Future. Four areas make up the core of our sustainability roadmap: reducing carbon footprints, circular use of resources, enhancing the business model, and contributing to the development of employees and the community. Through our initiatives in these areas, we are taking concrete steps towards our sustainability goals.
As a result of these efforts, we have avoided approximately 1000 tons of CO2 emissions by the end of 2021. We did this by lowering our consumption of natural gas by about 56.2 thousand Sm3, electricity by about 1.351 thousand kWh, and diesel fuel by about 89.3 thousand liters.”
"Net Zero" Goal by 2050
Declaring that they keep moving forward with their energy-saving efforts, Türk Prysmian Kablo’s CEO Ülkü Özcan added; “In order to lead the sustainable transformation of the cable manufacturing industry, we have implemented many projects in 2022 thanks to our investments in eco-friendly, low-carbon, and renewable products. We continue to take on Turkey's mega renewable energy projects, from Karapınar YEKA-1, Turkey’s largest solar power plant, to the first and largest high-voltage submarine cable projects, from wind farm projects to the largest fiber optic cable projects, thanks to our new generation cables. Prysmian Group plans to be net zero in scope 1 and scope 2 emissions by 2035, and scope 3 emissions by 2050, under the Science-Based Targets Initiative (SBTi). At Türk Prysmian Kablo, we continue to contribute to these global goals thanks to our energy-awareness activities.”
